PREPPING FOR ARANGETRAM
On the surface, Arangetram preparation started only 6 months ago, but there are unseen 5 years of relentless learning, dedication, hard work, sacrifice, and commitment from all parties involved (Acharya, Shishya, and Families).
Even before I delved into this art form, I had always been a fitness enthusiast. I regularly practiced strength and cardio training. A strong body is an asset to any dancer, and thanks to my fitness training, I was able to sustain the initial classes that involved intricate footwork. Many people quit in the early stages, thinking it might not be possible to withstand the physical demands of this art form. Investing time earlier to train both the body and mind was an added benefit. It takes a lot of time to build this foundation, as dance itself is highly demanding.
I’m not naturally gifted at it. Every small step, eye and neck movement, and expression are meticulously worked upon in numerous iterations before I can present them. Throughout my journey, I have encountered many individuals who exude amazing energy and offer heartfelt encouragement that keeps me motivated and moving forward. The goodwill and support from others have played a major role in my journey.
Preparing to dance doesn’t necessarily involve constant movement; it can also include mental practice, reading, collecting literature, and observing other Rasikas’ dance. Countless hours have been spent engaging in these activities.
